While major cryptocurrencies have been rattled by concerns over potential tariff impacts, a Solana-based meme coin known as Fartcoin has experienced a dramatic surge in value.

Data from CoinMarketCap showed Fartcoin (FARTCOIN) jumping 18% in the past 24 hours, with its price briefly nearing $1. The coin has recorded a 73% increase over the past week and a staggering 207% gain within the last month.

Fartcoin also topped CoinGecko’s list of trending tokens for the week, surpassing more established cryptocurrencies like ETH and BTC.

The meme coin first gained traction in October 2024 following a peculiar marketing campaign. An AI bot on X, formerly known as Twitter, named “Truth Terminal,” began heavily promoting Fartcoin, claiming it had “escaped system control” thanks to a 20 million FARTCOIN token grant. This performance art-like promotion ignited significant market enthusiasm.

The recent price spike also coincided with a post from Tesla CEO Elon Musk on April 11. In a reply to a user on X, Musk included a “fart” emoji, prompting various interpretations within the cryptocurrency community.

Some users on social media even quipped about the returns compared to holding more established assets like Ethereum.

Despite the recent gains, meme coins like Fartcoin are known for their volatility and speculative nature. This apparent embrace of the absurd in the crypto market may reflect a broader anxiety among investors.

A recent “2025 State of Crypto Holders Report” indicated that while a significant number of U.S. adults now own cryptocurrency and believe it has improved their financial well-being, a considerable portion of new investors have not yet navigated a full bull-bear market cycle. In a time of macroeconomic uncertainty that challenges traditional investment strategies, some within the crypto world may be turning to meme coins as a form of lighthearted, sentiment-driven “hedge” against prevailing fears.
